What began as a shared passion for educational equity, grew into a deep friendship and, now, a life-building partnership.
Our Story over the Years
2015: Molly moves to Charlotte and meets Whitaker when taking his headshot for a Teach For America alumni program.
2018: After grad school, Whitaker moves to Durham, NC where Molly frequently visits to spend time with family and friends — we reconnect and a few months later start dating.
2020: Molly moves to Durham, and we take up pandemic hobbies such as vegetable gardening, sourdough bagel making, bonfire building and raising a pandemic puppy, Riley (who Layla warmed up to!)
2021: Molly and Whitaker move back to Charlotte and settle into our Belmont neighborhood home, beginning our amateur DIY journey, rekindling CLT sports fandom, and taking advantage of frequent getaways to the nearby Blue Ridge Mountains.
2023: Whit proposes at Deer Valley Folk Festival in PA after a joyful weekend with friends listening to our favorite bands in a summer camp setting. Molly is surprised — even though just 12 hours earlier she’d had the thought “I should have proposed to Whit this weekend”!
